Performance Wing (A unit of Lasyakalakshetra)

Lasya’s performance wing, a unit of Lasyakalakshetra, stages dance recitals, operas, and musicals frequently. In addition to these, We have artists who perform kutcheris in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi, This performing group is widely acclaimed for their brilliant performances in various cities in India and abroad. Most of our programmes have contemporary relevance, though based on mythology and Indian classics.

The following are a few examples of dance-based programmes which have been appreciated widey:-

Ganga (the ganges )

Ganga- The story of the holy river, contrasts its good old days and its polluted state at present. The dance performance is based on themes of the origin of the Ganges, the attempts of Bhageeratha to bring it to the earth and other myths about the river.

Kanyabhoomi

Kanyabhoomi- A dance performance based on the lives of Seetha, Droupathi , Kannaki and Seelavathi as depicted in the Indian Puranas and epics examine the state of contemporary Indian women in the light of new feminist perspectives.

Pulijanmam Oru Puraavruttham

Pulijanmam oru puraavruttham -(Ballad of a man who became a tiger) The story of Karikurikal, an untouchable dalit youth, who got educated in martial arts in spite of the upper castes’ attempt to deny any education to the members of his community. The elite class could not stand it and they conspired to make him a scapegoat of his own capacity to change himself into a tiger. This dance drama is based on folk lore and the folk art of Theyyam.

Kurukshetra

Kurukshetra - A dance program based on the Mahabharatha, the great Indian epic that depicts the horror of war.

Karuna

Karuna - A dance program based on a famous poem with the same title written by the great poet Kumaranashan. It depicts the Spiritual relationship between a Buddhist monk and a courtesan.

Navarasa

Navarasa - Lord Siva is nataraja, the deity of dance. ‘Navarasa’ is a classical bharathanatyam performance based on nine different rasas in nine stories related to him.

Ente Chonna Manninte Pattu

Ente Chonna Manninte Pattu - The theme of this dance is the historical peasant movement at Karivellur in north Kerala at the time of freedom struggle as presented in ‘A song of my red soil’, a poem written by Karivellur Murali, a famous poet in Kerala.

Ramanan

Ramanan - was a popular love poem written by the Malayalam romantic poet ‘Changanpuzha’. It has a pastoral , rural and elegiac setting. The ambience of its sad story is brought out through dance.
